ATHERTON COLLS fell to a 2-1 home defeat against Vauxhall GM, missed early chances costing them Colls dear.
A superb finish on 20 minutes from former Stoneclough striker Paul Davies was the only first half return from a fine performance.
Vauxhall levelled just before the break when Colls defender John Openshaw fouled and the penalty was converted.
The second half midfield stalemate was broken when Colls keeper Paul Blenkinship came for a cross that never looked his and an opposing forward flicked over him into the top corner.
Chris Dale had a pleasing debut for Colls and another recent signing, Stephen Lee, also looked useful when he came on as substitute.
Sadly, defender Neil Wright will be out for 10 weeks with work commitments.
ATHERTON LR drew 1-1 at one of the NWCL Division One form teams, Mossley.
But manager Gerry Luczka declared: "Everyone was saying it was a good point for us to go there and draw but I felt it was two points thrown away.
"We didn't play well and I didn't think they were as good a side as we had heard. We couldn't string our passes together and gave the ball away far too often. The goal we conceded was also a bit of a joke."
LR took the lead on 11 minutes when Paul Davies and Peter McRae combined to send Danny Mills through to chip the keeper superbly. The equaliser came on 65 minutes when Jimmy Birch floated in a speculative effort from 35 yards.
Mike Charlton and Steve Dixon were again outstanding at the back for LR.
GOLBORNE'S Pennington Paper beat AFC Hindley 2-1 in the South West Lancs Division Five Cup. Gary Kendrick and Kevin Cousins scored for Pennington, Mark Glover replied.
HINDSFORD, with keeper Scott Jones outstanding, romped in 4-2 against Adlington. But they had to bounce back from the shock of an early goal before striding through with strikes from Chris Jolley, Danny Twist and a Dan Toone double. Neil Sloan capped a miserable afternoon for himself when he scored an own goal late in the match. Hindsford Reserves scored a 3-0 win at Turton, Mark Haslem, MoM Jason Lee and Darren White (his first-ever goal) on target.
