Pilkington Recs 10 Haydock 24 A COMBINATION of a solid forward display and resolute defending was the recipe for Haydock's derby victory.
And the Yickers also enjoyed a purple patch midway through the first half as they crossed for three tries in seven minutes to take a stranglehold on the game.
First good passing created an overlap for full-back Tither to go over from 20 yards. Haughey converted.
Then Haughey launched a bomb and re-gathered it to score himself. And the third touchdown came when Ford kicked through for O'Garra, Haughey added the extras.
Recs fought to get back into the game and went close through half-backs Dave Price and Craig Burrows.
Early in the second period Recs got themselves on the scoresheet, when, after good work from Anthony Marsh and substitute Arthur Manning, the tireless home skipper Shaun Dolan stepped round Tither to score. Marsh converted.
However, a Haughey penalty stretched Haydock's lead going into the final quarter.
With both sides tiring gaps began to appear and a speculative kick through by Anthony Marsh saw the second-rower win three chase to score. His conversion attempt struck an upright.
But with eight minutes to go Haydock sealed two valuable points when Tommy Frodsham paved the way Fearnley to cross the whitewash. Haughey converted.
Outstanding for Haydock were Scott, Lowe, Fearnley and Tither.
For Recs, hard-working loose-forward Shaun Dolan took the Haydock Timber Supplies man of the match award. He was well supported by Mike Dennett, Graham Cranney, Jamie Hill and Peter Cahalin.
