ST HELENS Council's Trading Standards Section are beginning to receive enquiries from St Helens residents about door-to-door salesmen who are attempting to sign-up customers in preparation for Gas De-regulation in February, 1998.
Ken Wardale, Chief Trading Standards Officer, said: "We have been told by a Windle Ward councillor that householders in the Windle and Eccleston area are being targeted by door-to-door salesmen.
"Whilst there is nothing wrong in this, we are advising the public not to sign anything or give any money to salesmen, unless they are totally sure the deal is right for them. Some salesmen are acting for a brokerage type of company, and are not gas suppliers."
