A TWO-year-old girl was taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation after setting fire to bed clothes at her home in Firs Lane, Leigh.
Alisha Croft's father was alerted by her screams for help during the Monday lunchtime incident in her bedroom. He managed to get his daughter out of the smoke-filled room before firefighters arrived on the scene. Alisha was taken to Leigh Infirmary as a precaution.
Firemen from Eccles and Leigh Fire stations found the bed well alight and the room smoke-logged. They said the toddler had been playing with matches.
Station officer Steve Birchall later stressed the importance of keeping matches out of the reach of children.
