A LOCAL woman is trying to trace the owner of a medal which she found in the garden of their home almost 40 years ago.
Sylvia Morgan, from Legh Road, Haydock, found the medal in the garden of her old home in nearby Mercer Road.
She told the Star: "It was in 1960, a year after my husband and I moved in to Mercer Road and we happened to be digging in the garden one day when we came across the medal. It is in the form of an Indian Rupee piece and is about the size of an old 10p piece. It was printed in 1917 and says '19073 J. Littler, C of E. 6, South Lancs.' There is also an emblem of a bunch of feathers on it."
Sylvia is now hoping someone will recognise the description of the medal and claim it.
She added: "When we found it, I just put in into the box with my husband's medals and we thought no more about it. But I was sorting through them earlier this year and came across it again and I thought that even if the owner had since died, it might be nice for the relatives to have the medal as a keepsake."
