AN all-women football team is making a desperate appeal for other female sides to take them on after being beaten hands down playing against men.
Mereside Mums, which was formed this spring with the aim of giving mothers a chance to get fit and have fun away from home, has so far only found one other women's team to play against.
That was at their local summer gala against a side from Grange Park.
Undeterred, the mums have kept up with their twice-a-week practices and regular training schedules.
And ever game-for-a-laugh, the mums have thrown themselves in at the deep end, playing against men's teams in the absence of women's sides.
But goalie and team organiser Linda Colquhoun admitted: "Its very demoralising when they win 20 goals to nil.
"It's not that we need to win all the time but we just want to play against a side that won't utterly thrash us.
"We want an even game where we can improve our skills."
Midfielder Lisa Reid added: "We haven't been going long and we just aren't up to the fitness level of men.
"They are at the other end of the pitch before we have even got going. It's not very morale-boosting for us.
"We are sure there must be more women's teams on the Fylde but it's just a question of finding them.
"We have had a practice with Poulton ladies team and a game at the gala but that's about it."
Anyone interested in forming a women's side or players from established sides wanting a game against Mereside Mums should contact Linda on 798037 as soon as possible.
