BURNLEY'S search for new blood became urgent on Tuesday night, when their lack of class in attack was exposed against a powerful Millwall side.
But after the game, player-boss Chris Waddle revealed how difficult it was for him to bring players in.
"The search goes on," he said, "and it would be nice to have somebody by the end of the week, and we will keep on making calls.
"But it's hard to get people on loan. I can't really dive in and buy someone and it's hard to persuade a club to let someone out on loan for a month when they can't call them back for the first month.
"That's the problem we have got."
Grimsby away is the tricky match facing the Clarets next, on Saturday (November 22).
The Mariners may not be as tough a prospect at Millwall, but Burnley's drop in form - worsened by their first home defeat for nearly eight months this week - makes them vulnerable against any team, particularly away.
But one good thing to come out of Tuesday's defeat was the return of Paul Smith from injury. Burnley badly need his flair in midfield.
