MORECAMBE'S £8,000 record buy Andy Milner could only watch from the sidelines as his new team mates missed chance after chance to go into the next round of the FA Cup on Saturday.

And what's more frustrating is that the former Chester City hot-shot will be cup tied for the Emley replay.

Hopefully Morecambe's fantastic away form will take them through to face either Lincoln City or Gainsborough but someone in the side will have to rediscover the scoring touch which saw the Shrimps top the league earlier in the season.

Mike Bignall had put the Shrimps in the lead in the 37th minute after running onto a superb Brian Healy through ball. He rounded the advancing keeper to shoot into an open net.

As the first half drew to a close Ian Monk missed a sitter from six yards and when play resumed Bignall thundered a shot over the bar after playmaker Healy put him clear again.

When Emley drew level with a penalty Bignall was the first to return the attacking fire but his volley missed by inches and his second one-on-one with the keeper saw Chris Marples gather the ball.

Emley knocked Morecambe out of the cup two years ago and with 20 minutes left their winger Michael Reynolds weaved his way down the flank to stir fry the Shrimp defence.

His jinking runs and lethal crosses saw the Yorkshiremen gain the initiative and Jim Harvey brought on Takano to tighten up the back four.

The Shrimps we're lucky to escape unscathed and in the dying seconds Mark Ceraolo, who had replaced Bignall, was put clean through but the keeper got the better of him.

Morecambe: Banks, Burns, Hughes (Takano) Hughes, Mayers, Drummond, Monk (Ceroalo) Healy, Bignall (Parkinson) Norman, Shirley. Subs: Hodgson, McIllhargey.
