IN reply to my remarks on the transfer of Hyndburn Council's housing stock, Mrs G M Sarkar (Letters, November 24) says that financial information was available at 22 public meetings throughout the borough.

I would think that fewer than five per cent of council tenants attended these meetings for one reason or another. I was unable to do so because of health problems.

If, however, this information was readily available, why was it not published in the "Stock Transfer News" sent to every council tenant? This would have made more sense.

Mrs Sarkar also says that if a Management Board is formed, the council would receive payment from this board based on the condition of the properties.

Where would this body get the money from to buy these properties from the council? If they are to borrow it then the Board would just be in the same position as Hyndburn Council has been.

Whichever way you look at it, the debt will still be there - only, it will have been shunted about.

I would certainly not vote for anything remotely connected with Hyndburn Council under its present control, for we are just going to end up with another situation like Hyndburn Transport.
