IMPROVING Lancashire Hawks are hoping to add a couple of new faces to their squad...but transfer moves may not materialise in time for fresh blood to join in this weekend's action.

After announcing that defenceman Lee Cowmeadow would be leaving the Arena, Hawks officials have been busily trying to make signings.

"It's not an easy task at this stage of a season but we are hopeful," says manager Mike Cockayne. "We are contacting many many people and believe our efforts will produce a return."

Hawks tackle Peterborough at home tonight (face off 6pm) and then make the trek to Scotland to face Fife Flyers tomorrow. Both are British National League fixtures.

Hawks were lifted last weekend with two back-to-back victories over Altrincham Aces and a Great Britain youth team.

While the victories didn't produce a tangible return in terms of points, they at least served to build confidence after a topsy turvy few weeks.

Looking ahead to the weekend action, Mr Cockayne added: "Obviously these two games will be difficult tests for us - is there ever anything but a difficult game?

"Peterborough are a strong outfit but we did well down there, losing only narrowly 6-4. Netminder Barry Hollyhead was outstanding that night and we will again be looking for him to produce top form.

"But we need every player to be on song, not get reliant on the efforts of one individual.

"Like in any other sport, when you are losing it is hard to claw back and stay positive. But we haven't been getting hammered - when we have lost it's usually been in a closely fought game with little between the sides.

"We are operating on a small squad but it is always surprising what collective effort and the right sort of attitude can achieve."
