EAST Lancashire employers are being urged to bring themselves up to date with fire safety regulations coming into force today.

ELTEC and the Lancashire Fire Service are holding free safety seminars, the first of which is at ELTEC, Red Rose Court, Clayton-le-Moors, on Tuesday, December 9, from 8.30am to 1.30pm.

Station officer Peter Cogley said: "According to a Home Office report, the total cost of a fire in England and Wales amounts to an annual £4.5 billion.

"We are hosting the fire safety seminars in a bid to ensure that fewer East Lancashire firms are among next year's statistics."
