CHRIS Waddle is sticking to his guns over the comments which whipped up such a storm and he is demanding his team show the same sort of determination at Bristol City tonight.
Reaction from the supporters themselves to the player-manager's criticism of the attitude shown by the fans at Saturday's game has been mixed.
But Waddle knows exactly what kind of response he wants from his players at Ashton Gate.
Bristol City, managed by former Turf Moor assistant boss John Ward, have won eight successive matches and are one of the promotion favourites. But the Burnley boss declared: "They are not unbeatable.
"We have to go there and make sure we keep the ball and if we do that we can create chances.
"Northampton were up among the top sides and we beat them. Bristol City are a better side than Northampton and they are at home as well, but we'll make a game of it.
"There's no point trying to defend for 90 minutes, because if you do that you'll get beaten."
Waddle will probably stick with an unchanged squad and has the tricky question of deciding whether to start with Lee Howey in an attacking role again or pair Andy Cooke and Paul Barnes up front. The manager was delighted with the way the team approached Saturday's game against Northampton, knowing it was vital to get something from it.
And he is well aware that it will be an even tougher test at Ashton Gate.
"They are on a hell of a run and they have spent quite well," he added.
But Waddle hopes to give Bristol something to think about too.
Burnley are expected to choose from: Beresford, Brass, Blatherwick, Moore, Vinnicombe, Waddle, Harrison, Ford, Weller, Barnes, Howey, Cooke, Matthew, Cowans.
Bristol boss Ward has a few problems, despite the magnificent run of eight successive wins. And he is down to the bare bones of the squad.
There are more problems for the Ashton Gate side tonight when experienced defender Brian Tinnion looks like being out with a thigh strain and midfielder Matt Hewlett starts a three-game ban.
Steve Torpey is waiting to go into hospital for an operation this week but Rob Edwards is set to return to midfield after injury.
Waddle will also warn his men to keep a close eye on top scorer Shaun Goater. Bristol will select from: Welsh, Locke, Bell, Taylor, Carey, Goodridge, Brennan, Edwards, Doherty, Cramb, Goater, Tisdale, Barclay, Langan.
Burnley travel to Hull City tonight in the second round of the FA Youth Cup.
