A JET-SETTING schoolgirl turned up for work experience - and ended up flying to New York for the day.
High-flying Lisa Thornton, 15, could hardly believe her ears when bosses at British Airways asked if she fancied a trip to the Big Apple.
She clocked up 10,000 miles and looked behind the scenes at JFK Airport.
And the pupil of St Wilfrid's High School, Blackburn, didn't stop her globe trotting there - days later she flew to DM- sseldorf in Germany!
Lisa, of The Chase, Burnley, began her amazing day at 8.45am when she arrived at Manchester Airport to report for work and her day included:
9.45am: Boarding her flight to the States.
10am: Sitting in the cockpit for take off.
10.30am: Back to the comfort of her luxury seat for her in-flight meal.
4pm: Arriving in New York for a tour of JFK Airport, including a look behind the scenes at baggage handling.
6pm: Back on the plane for the trip home, arriving in Manchester after midnight.
Lisa said: "They asked me if I had my passport and I said 'yes.' They then said do you want to go to New York? I thought they just meant to the boarding area for a New York flight and when they told me I was actually going I was stunned. I phoned my dad at work and told him I'd be late home. When I said why, he thought I was winding him up.
"My friends didn't believe me either. It was a fantastic day and definitely something different to sitting in an office."
Lisa had already been to New York once this year during a family touring holiday with architect dad, Brian, nursery teacher mum Janet, and brother Paul, 17, a sixth former at St Wilfrid's.
She is now aiming to become a stewardess.
