TENANTS on Preston's troubled Callon estate have voted for their homes to be transferred from council control.

Two thirds of those who took part in the ballot gave the thumbs up to a move to Collingwood Housing Association.

Those who voted live in the unimproved last third of the estate, left unfinished when the council's Estate Action programme was stopped.

The council's Housing Committee will decide whether to accept the swap to Collingwood which would see major improvements for the homes.

Collingwood's Chief Executive Roger Phillips said: "We're very pleased at the result. We're keen to get on with the job of improving the properties."
