A LEYLAND college has been hit by a brain bug scare after one of its students was admitted to hospital with suspected meningitis.
Staff at Chorley and South Ribble hospital refused to name the Runshaw College girl tested by doctors who thought she had the killer disease.
Although the results proved negative, the poorly teenager remains ill with a mystery ailment and has not yet returned home. Hospital Chief Executive Jeff Moore confirmed the girl was still in hospital and said: "We did admit a patient on Monday (Nov 24) with suspected meningitis but the results of all tests have proved negative.
"She is still with us but is doing well."
Mr Moore and Runshaw College bosses would not confirm rumours that another student was also in hospital with similar symptoms.
Runshaw College's spokeswoman said: "To the best of our knowledge there's no problem at all.
"The girl's father said she had been tested for meningitis and it isn't that."
