AFTER two years of fund-raising Leigh Round Table has presented the local branch of the Women's Royal Voluntary Service with a new mini-bus.
The vehicle will now be used to deliver Meals on Wheels to the elderly and infirm seven days a week.
It will also take them to hospital appointments, on shopping trips and trips to the dentist.
WRVS Organiser Eunice Sephton said: "The bus will help us to deliver 20,000 meals a year to the elderly in Leigh. On behalf of the WRVS I would like to thank Leigh Round table for all their hard work and dedication in raising funds for the bus. It took two years but we have finally got our replacement."
Eunice said she also wishes to publicly thank Lloyds-TSB Foundation, the Sir Jules Thorn Trust, Leigh Conservative Club, Leigh Ladies Auxilliary and the people of Leigh for their support and help.
She added: "We are always wanting voluntary drivers and helpers to drive our vehicles for Meals on Wheels and other events. So anyone who can spare a couple of hours of their time, even once a month, will be more than welcome."
Expenses can be claimed and anyone interested can ring Eunice on 01942 673153, between 10am and 1pm, Monday to Thursday.
