THE caring family of a young cancer sufferer in Leyland have rallied round to raise cash to fight the disease.
The Gilletts, of St Clements Avenue, Farrington, had just celebrated son Lee's fourth birthday earlier this year when they discovered he had the life-threatening illness.
But six months on - as the brave youngster continues with intensive chemotherapy - they are determined to give something back to the doctors and nurses who cared for Lee.
Mum Tracy still remembers when her son was diagnosed: "We were devastated. We thought we were going to lose him. You can't see any light at the end of the tunnel."
The family was delighted with the treatment Lee received and the support from staff at Manchester's Pendlebury hospital.
Lee's aunt, Dawn Almond, of Stanley Road, Farrington, hit on the idea of a charity evening so everyone could enjoy themselves while raising money.
Dawn said: "When we found out about Lee, we couldn't take it in. There were lots of tears and you ask yourself why it should happen to us.
"But everyone at Pendlebury has been absolutely magnificent. We had to do something in return to say thank-you."
A night of entertainment has been planned for this Saturday (Nov 29) at Leyland Motors Club - and tickets have sold out!
The all-ticket event includes a DJ, raffles and an auction, and it's hoped that more than £1,000 will be raised for Pendlebury's playroom.
