BRENTFORD could be ready to step up their interest in Burnley midfielder Nigel Gleghorn, who joined the London club on a month's loan just over two weeks ago.
The former Turf Moor skipper made his mark for Brentford by scoring his first goal for them in a welcome 1-1 draw for the strugglers against big-spending Fulham.
And manager Micky Adams has hinted that he might well be interested in a more permanent deal for Gleghorn who has figured only once in the Second Division so far this season for Burnley.
The 35-year-old has been forced to help out Brentford by playing in a defensive role.
But, against Fulham, he was played in his preferred midfield position and Adams said: "I wanted to have a proper look at Nigel in midfield because he has been playing at left back for us.
"He did very well. He took his goal well and it was a good all-round performance.
"It was a great strike. He got it back onto his left foot and finished it clinically.
"Nigel still has a bit longer with us on loan and we will take it from there." Burnley player-manager Chris Waddle made Gleghorn, and several other players, available for transfer earlier this season.
And, if he can settle at a new club like Brentford, Burnley are set to release him on a free transfer.
Gleghorn moved to Turf Moor from Stoke at the start of last season, while Adrian Heath was in charge.
He played in 33 League games, scoring four goals for Burnley in 1996-97 but has started only once under Waddle this season, in the match against Bristol Rovers at the end of August.
A move to Brentford, who are battling with Burnley to climb out of the Second Division relegation zone, could be the answer for a player who needs first team football at this stage of his career.
Meanwhile, Paul Barnes and Neil Moore were in the treatment room today after suffering reactions to Tursday's game at Bristol City.
Barnes suffered a hamstring twinge and Moore tweaked a knee ligament but neither are expected to cause long-term problems.
Waddle has arranged a hush-hush friendly behind closed doors tomorrow away from Gawthorpe, where the pitches are "awful".
The manager did not want to reveal the opposition but added: "All I can say is that it's not Gremio!"
Kevin Henderson opened his Burnley goal account following his move from non-league Morpeth with a goal in the 4-1 reserves win at Bradford in the Pontin's League Cup.
