Waterhead 32 Haydock 10

Lancashire Cup semi-final HAYDOCK were far from disgraced against the cup favourites.

The Oldham side, still unbeaten this season, were well organised and deserved their victory.

But Haydock played their part in a fine match.

It took Waterhead 20 minutes to breach the Yickers defence and they did it again eight minutes later to take an 8-nil lead.

But Haydock, who had started nervously, began to play some open rugby and Waterhead struggled to cope with Bloor, Lowe and Fearnley.

They were rewarded when Abbott touched down in the corner.

Haydock started the second half brightly and they had the Oldham side in trouble, with Haughey putting through some good kicks.

But Waterhead held firm and a 10-minute purple patch saw them extend their lead to 26-4, with three converted tries.

But Haydock would not lie down and with five minutes to go the hard-working Bloor scored a fine try near the posts, allowing Haughey a simple conversion.

On the stroke of time Waterhead scored the final try, which was also converted.

Best for Haydock in a side that did not deserve to lose by 22 points were Fearnley, Bloor, Lowe, Wade and O'Garra.
