For members of a Government watchdog team have been seeing for themselves the safety initiatives in the borough. And the measures will be used as a role model in a new Home Office book.
Audit Commission officials have been looking at initiatives in the borough as part of the Safer Merseyside Partnership. They are currently compiling a good practice publication on safety schemes and are using St Helens as an example because of its high standards and variety of community work.
The partnership, between the council and Merseyside Police, has already resulted in lower crime levels and greater awareness of safety issues.
