BOSTON singer Amy Rome is going to add an extra special sparkle to the Christmas lights in St Annes this weekend when she performs the switch-on.

The celebrity singer who has been touring Britain promoting her new CD already has an ardent fan club on the Fylde.

Speaking about the honour of being chosen to perform the switch-on Amy told the Citizen: "I am very excited about it. It will be a big moment. St Annes is very close to my heart, so I am proud to be taking part."

Also with her at the crucial moment will be Fylde Mayor Dawn Prestwich, Chairman of St Annes Chamber of Trade, Arnold Sumner and St Annes Carnival Queen.

Along with them will be the landlord and landlady of Brewers Fayre of Salters Wharf, Andy and Tracy Bishop with their daughter Georgina.

They stepped in at the 11th hour with a £3,000 donation to save St Annes lights from being scaled down due to lack of council money.

Festivities will begin on the stage outside JR Taylor at 3.30pm on Saturday (November 29) when Lytham St Annes High School Band strike up the opening notes.

At 4pm the Christmas lights will be officially turned on and during the occasion fundraisers will be collecting money to help Blackpool Victoria Hospital's MRI scanner appeal.

At last year's Christmas switch-on £4,000 was raised.

Mr Sumner said: "We are all looking forward to a wonderful switch-on, especially with Amy Rome."
