THE driver of a Vauxhall Cavalier had to be cut free after being involved in a collision with a police car answering an emergency call.

The accident happened at about 9.55am yesterday (Wednesday, November 26) at the junction of Brynn Street and Clifton Street in St Helens town centre.

The Cavalier overturned as a result of the collision and the male driver of the car had to be freed by the Fire Brigade. He was taken to Whiston Hospital but the extent of his injuries was not known at the time of going to press.

Both police officers from the marked car were also taken to Whiston suffering from minor injuries and were released later.

Police are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the accident to contact traffic officer Sergeant Roy Kelsall on 0151 777 6707.
