DERELICT land close to St Helens town centre will become the site of quality new housing - thanks to a £353,555 cash injection from English Partnerships.
The £1.4 million project by Derwent Partnership Homes will transform the 0.7 hectares of neglected land in the Peasley Cross area into new houses and flats. The scheme will complete the regeneration of the area, which started with a £1.6 million housing and training scheme just opened by Grosvenor Housing Association.
Work on the scheme, to construct 20 two and three-bedroom houses and 16 one-bedroom flats at the corner of Ormande Street and Sherdley Road, is expected to start in December. The development is due for completion early in 1999.
The houses, priced from £33,500, will be sold on the open market and the flats will be sold to Grosvenor Housing Association for rent.
