LANCASTER City Council has dropped it legal bid to prosecute Nightingale Hall Farm over the infamous 'stink weekend' in June. A top environmental barrister had originally indicated that the council may have grounds for legal proceedings under the Environment Protection Act. But this week the barrister's green light turned to red and the council "regrettably" dropped the action. "Having looked in detail at all the information the barrister has advised us in the strongest terms that it would not be right to prosecute Fats and Proteins," said environment chief, Cllr Jerry Sutton, "we reluctantly agreed to accept the lawyer's advice. It is regrettable as a lot of people's hopes had been raised."
