LANCASHIRE Hawks will be without defenceman Neil Abel this weekend when they kick off their Christmas Cup campaign against Paisley at the Arena.

The big Scot broke his foot a couple of weeks ago, and although he is out of plaster, he is still on the treatment table while it heaps up.

Hawks, who have made no progress on the transfer market this week, travel to Murrayfield on Sunday.

The Arena also plays host to the Great Britain Sledge Hockey team on Saturday when they take on the Norwegian national side (face off 11.30pm). Sledge hockey allows people with disabilities to play the sport, losing none of the rough and tumble of ice hockey.

The clash is part of a three-game warm-up ahead of next year's Paralympics in Japan.

"We are delighted to give the people of East Lancashire an opportunity to see International Sledge Hockey right here in Blackburn," says Hawks manager Mike Cockayne. "It's just as fast, dynamic and body-crunching as ice hockey, and should be a marvellous game."
