AT LAST, the M65 extension is to open. And on Monday the road this newspaper and thousands of others in East Lancashire have campaigned for and demanded for more than a generation will be complete.
No longer the "road to nowhere" - as it was without this vital link to the rest of the country's motorway network - the M65 is now the lifeline for our region's future and prosperity.
Already, it is proving just how true that is. The tremendous improvement in communications has already brought in scores of new businesses and more are in the queue.
But it is not just jobs that are the bonus. The roads in our towns will also become safer and less congested. And pollution will be cut.
Now, the dream is realised. And after all these years of calling for it, we are only too happy to add the final word of our campaign...
THANKS!
