I AGREE with S Spence (Letters, Dec 6) regarding Tommy Ball.
This gentleman was treated very badly by the then Blackburn Council over Sunday opening.
Mr Ball has been, and still is a benefactor to this town, and should have received some sort of civic recognition years ago.
As for 'A-boards,' judging by the outcry against banning them, it must be obvious even to the council that a great deal of damage is being done to small businesses. The ban should be scrapped before irreparable damage is caused.
I have particular sympathy for the two ladies who run the old-established firm, Shumart, in Northgate.
I understand that the objective of the ban is to keep pedestrian ways free from obstruction. If so, what price the expensive, unnecessary, unloved so-called sculpture on the Boulevard, waiting for someone to fall over it?
