TWO masked raiders armed with a knife robbed Griffin Head petrol station, Huncoat, last night, at 8.45pm.

The men, wearing balaclavas, escaped on foot with about £100 in loose change. It is the second raid at the Burnley Road Jet petrol station in just over two months.

The raiders walked into the garage, told the 37-year-old cashier to lie on the floor and demanded money.

One of them went round the counter and took cash from the till and bags of change from beneath the till. They ran out of the garage when they saw the woman press the panic button.

A group of men leaving the nearby Griffin Head pub chased the raiders across fields but lost them.

The cashier was shaken, but not hurt in the incident. No one else was in the garage at the time.

The robber brandishing the knife was 5ft 2in and of medium build, and the other was 6ft and of slim build.

Both were wearing dark three quarter length waterproof jackets. One of the jackets had yellow on and the back of taller raider's jacket was covered in mud.

In the last raid at the petrol station a masked man armed with a cosh got away with hundreds of pounds from the till. Anyone with information about the latest raid should contact Accrington CID on 01254 382141.
