STUDENT Vicky Catterall won a coveted place as a volunteer working overseas - but must find more than £3,000 to pay for the trip.
Seventeen-year-old Vicky, who is at Nelson and Colne College, won the chance to spend a year in South Africa after beating applicants from all over the country.
Her stay will cost £8.60 a day and she will be expected to teach and care for children during her stay.
Former Primet High School pupil Vicky went through a tough initiative test on the Inner Hebrides island of Coll. She wants to go to South Africa for a year before going to university.
Said Vicky: "I didn't want to travel abroad as a tourist. I wanted to discover more about a country and experience a different culture."
