A CHEAP toy is not a bargain if a child gets hurt.
That's the message from trading standards bosses in Bury who are reminding shoppers to take care when choosing Christmas presents for their children over the next few weeks.
Every year around 36,000 children under the age of 14 are injured in accidents involving carelessness with toys that have sharp edges, are poorly made, or are given to the wrong age group to use.
Mr Peter Jagger, manager of Bury's trading standards department, said: "The right toy should be bought for the right age. Always check the age-label on the packaging, and people should buy from an outlet they can trust."
Anyone who buys what appears to be a dangerous toy can contact the department at Maple House in Haymarket Street, Bury.
