EMBARRASSED council officials have ordered a raunchy quote on a concert poster to be covered up after it left them blushing.
They decided comments on posters for a rock concert at Accrington Town Hall had gone too far and banned the offending posters from being put up in council buildings.
Concert promoter Dave Fullalove had to cover up the words on dozens of posters after being told to clean them up. Dave had used a quote from a review in the New Musical Express about Manchester band Gold Blade, who are headlining the concert on December 19.
It contained a string of overt sexual references saying how good the band were. Dave said: "I thought it was a good quote and the best way to describe the band. The council said it didn't think it was suitable and wanted the posters changed.I can now understand the council's point and have covered the words up with a more suitable quote."
Gold Blade are now billed on the posters as the 'best band to come out of Manchester for two decades'
Another Manchester band, Dog Toffee, and East Lancashire bands Easy Rider and The Mend, are also performing at the town hall.
The concert is being organised by the Sound Steering Group, an organisation set up to promote music in Accrington, backed by national lottery cash and Burnley-based Mid Pennine Arts.
A Hyndburn Council spokeswoman said: "The council was sent posters to put up in its buildings but we didn't think they were suitable."
She said the council was pleased with the amended versions.
