FUGITIVE Andrew Brent is back behind bars after two years on the run.

Brent, who was serving a life sentence after being found guilty of the murder of shopworker Janet Cheetham in Rainhill in December 1981, was arrested just a few hours before ITV's new crime show 'Most Wanted' was scheduled to go out on Friday night.

The programme had been previewed on Friday morning in a national newspaper article which featured a picture of Brent and details of his escape. As a result, calls from members of the public to Crimestoppers led to the arrest of 32-year-old who had escaped on June 17, 1995, while on day release from Sudbury Prison, Derbyshire.

Brent was arrested by plain clothes officers in Paignton, Devon, at about 1.15pm on Friday, November 28, at a car salesrooms where he was working under the name of Andrew Kaye. He had been living in nearby Brixham.

A spokesman for the Prison Service confirmed that Andrew Brent had not been returned to the open prison at Sudbury and was now in a secure prison.
