A NEW tourism and leisure strategy to meet Fylde people's needs for sport and recreation in to the 21st Century is being worked on by council chiefs.
They have employed a team of specialist consultants to carry out research into what sporting opportunities local people want.
Sport and recreation clubs, schools, parish councils, individuals and focus groups will all be asked to fill in questionnaires and participate in surveys. Richard Percy, of Steven Abbott Associates, one of two consultants chosen for the project, said: "We want to give sportsmen and women, clubs and all interested organisations in Fylde a chance to have their say. It is the local individuals and groups, together with the council, who will provide sporting opportunities into the next century."
Fellow consultant Eileen Hinson of BDO Stoy Haywood Leisure Services added: "We will also be seeking to identify any barriers which may be stopping people from playing the sport of their choice or discouraging informal recreational activities."
To start the consultation process, a public meeting is being held at Fylde Rugby Club, Blackpool Road, Lytham, on December 11 from 7.30pm to 9pm.
All interested groups and individuals are invited to attend and put forward their ideas.
