CAMPAIGNERS have vowed to carry on disrupting traffic on a busy main road they say is a danger to pedestrians.
About 30 residents in Cherry Tree, Blackburn, blocked Preston Old Road for the second time yesterday in their long-running battle for a pedestrian crossing.
And the campaigners are now considering making their road block protests a regular monthly occurrence, despite causing major disruption to traffic.
Protester Janice Beecroft said: "We asked for the police to be there because last time we had a few angry motorists.
"This time we blocked the road for ten to fifteen minutes and it went quite smoothly.
"There is an accident here more or less every two or three weeks. I wonder what it will take to get a crossing put in."
The campaign follows the death of 80-year-old Cherry Tree resident Hilda Clutton after a collision with a car and a serious accident involving six-year-old schoolgirl Camilla Abdel-Aziz. She suffered head injuries.
Blackburn with Darwen Council has said a proposal for "a crossing facility" would be submitted for the 1998/99 small improvements programme.
But residents want a pelican crossing and a petition signed by 1,400 local people, calling for a crossing, was presented to Blackburn MP Jack Straw in July.
