BLACKBURN Harriers runner Pauline Powell convincingly won the Lancashire cross-country championship at Worden Park, Leyland.
Halfway through the senior race she had dropped all the field apart from the leader, defending champion, Amanda Parkinson of Sale Harriers. Striding purposefully she narrowed the gap between them and went out in front with half the final lap to go.
Moving steadily ahead she was a full 15 seconds clear at the finish with Amanda second and Helen Pattinson of Preston third.
A senior title at this level is breaking new ground for Pauline.
Clayton-le-Moors Harriers senior men retained their team title by putting all their six counters in the first 30 home, having Mark Aspinall 10th, Mark Brown 12th, Graham Wilkinson 18th, Ian Greenwood 21st, John Roche 24th and Lee Passco 30th.
In the lower age groups Blackburn's Hayley Aldridge won the under 13 girls title, Lee McCash of Pendle was champion of the under 17s. Team championships were won by Pendle Under 13 Boys, Park High School Under 15 Girls and Blackburn Under 17 Men.
