I WAS unable to be at the demonstration for a pelican crossing on Preston Old Road at Cherry Tree, Blackburn, last Thursday because my son, Ben, was injured while crossing the same road the night before.
It shows the desperate need for a pelican crossing when our children are being knocked down and old people are being killed on the terrible stretch between Cherry Tree and Feniscowles.
There is just nowhere safe to cross. The only answers we get when we complain are: it doesn't warrant the cost; it will interrupt the flow of traffic; it is up to the police; and it is up to the council.
When is someone going to do something about it? We have a school, old people's home, doctor's surgery, library, toffee shop, three large residential estates, a clinic and, in among all of them, is this death-trap of a very busy road.
How much more do we have to do to get someone to listen to us? Please, let us have a pelican crossing.
KATH ASPIN (Mrs), Victoria Avenue, Blackburn.
