An award-winning model railway club is on an express route to success just 14 months down the line after forming. For so great has the impact of the Accrington-based 24A Model Railway Club been that the producers of the British Model Railway magazine are to film a video of the club's activities for national release.
Cine Rail, who are a part of the popular monthly magazine, are set to spend a day filming the club's layout which is based on the former Marsden Railway Station on the Huddersfield to Manchester line.
The video combines live footage of the station from the 1950s and 60s and a film of the 36ft by 14 ft model and is part of an on-going series.
So far the group, which takes its name from the old railway shed once in Charter Street, Accrington, has won two first prizes on its first outing at Fleetwood while last weekend it claimed runners-up spot at Wakefield.
Darrell Simmonds, a founder member of the club, said: "It is very exciting that our work is to appear in a video that enthusiasts across the country will be able to see. The producers have been in touch and say they have some very rare footage of the station and want to use it alongside film of our model."
The group is still looking to recruit more model railway enthusiasts and anyone interested should contact Darrell on Accrington 231859.
