THE parents of a boy who died in a tragic accident, are campaigning to ensure other families don't suffer like they have.
Jamie Foster was killed four years ago after being hit by a car in Blackpool Road, Ashton, Preston. He was eight years old.
Since then Allan and Ruth Foster have worked relentlessly to improve road safety. Allan became a local councillor and struggled to get a pedestrian crossing for the spot where his son was killed.
Now he has just launched his latest campaign to make paper boys and girls safer as they do their rounds.
Coun Foster said: "They need to be seen, I want to get them some bright, high visibility jackets so that drivers can spot them.
"Something has to be done before a serious accident happens."
To ensure the youngsters would wear the protective gear, the road safety sub-committee of which Allan is a member, is considering asking them what they want.
The committee is appealing for sponsorship to buy the coats and he is approaching local firms, including high street fashion shops, to come forward and help.
Allan added: "Since I lost Jamie, I have become quite conscious of road safety especially children, the more we can do to reduce accidents the better."
And his wife Ruth agreed: "We lost our son four years ago, that's why we are so involved. I would hate it to happen to anyone else."
