POLICE are appealing for witnesses to a 'mystery attack' on a 40-year-old man by a gang of youths on mountain bikes.
The man suffered broken ribs and severe bruising and is struggling to breathe properly in the intensive care unit at Royal Preston Hospital. He has not been able to shed much light on the attack which took place between midnight and 2am last Saturday (December 13).
Police are not even sure where exactly the attack took place. It could have been on Stoneygate or in the Moor Lane area in Preston where the victim comes from.
The man staggered into the all-night petrol station on Moor Lane after the assault, and staff there contacted the emergency services.
Sergeant Andy Dixon of Preston CID said: "The man has been quite badly assaulted. It's a bit of a mystery. There seems to be no motive behind what happened.
"If people saw an attack going on in the Stoneygate or Moor Lane they should get in touch."
