CHILDREN at a Burnley nursery are to be encouraged to learn through games in the playground following an OFSTED inspection.
The well-behaved youngsters impressed the visiting inspectors with their positive attitude to learning, particularly in maths, and with their levels of concentration.
Lead inspector Michael Hewlett suggested the school could raise its standards in outdoor play through planning and having teachers teach specific skills. He also said children should be adequately supervised.
Headteacher Dorothy Tomlinson said: "It is pleasing to have such a positive report from OFSTED, but we are not resting on our laurels.
"The OFSTED team identified a weakness in outdoor play and in our accident recording, which we are already addressing.
"They will figure significantly in our action plan, which will be in place in the next six weeks."
