STUART LOCKE scored his first goal for Leigh RMI to extend their unbeaten run to six games - and sound a warning to the other clubs with title ambitions in the UniBond Premier Division.
"There is a tremendous buzz at the club," said Locke. "Everyone is battling for each other and we are in a rich vein of form. In fact, it is championship-winning form."
Statistics confirm Locke's assessment with only two defeats in 18 games and Saturday's 1-0 clean sheet was the 13th time the opposition has failed to score in 28 games.
The full-back's 20-yard curler came in the 75th minute. He exchanged passes with Martin James before cutting in from the right to score.
"It was all one-way traffic in the second half and it was inevitable we would get one, but I didn't expect it to be from Stuart," said manager Steve Waywell.
ATHERTON COLLS beat fellow strugglers Holker Old Boys 2-0 with goals from Alan Shawcross and Paul Davies.
ATHERTON LR lost 4-0 at league leaders Newcastle Town. Graham Leishman up front and Steve Dixon in the middle of the defence were outstanding for LR.
LEIGH ATHLETIC lost 2-1 at Lymm, failing to make the most of their second-half domination, which led to 12 corners and two terrific chances (both missed). On target was Rob Lysons. On Saturday (2.15pm) Athletic are at home to Boltonians.
