As Leigh & District Amateur Football League wrapped up their 1997 programme, the Second Division promotion candidates became the league's first club this season to reach a semi-final.
They slammed First Division Rileys 5-0 in the Davenport Cup with goals from Paul Monaghan 2, Steve Butterworth, Gary Howcroft and Colin Nemis.
Neville Todd and Andy Whittle were outstanding for Rileys - but they were always up against it.
In the Coronation Cup Wayne Pitchford nothed four goals against Leigh Phoenix A - including a hat-trick of penalties.
But he still ended on the losing side, Royal Oak winning 6-4 with goals from Kevin Loughlan, Kevin Mullins, Mark McHugh 2 and Dave Calland 2.
There was a replay win for Hag Fold WMC, following their 3-3 draw with 0-0 and beating Higher Fold Village Inn 4-2 on penalties after extra-time.
Hero of the day was Hag Fold keeper Neil Birchall, who pulled off a penalty save in extra-time.
In Division One Leigh Eagles close the gap at the top with a 5-0 thrashing of Atherton Tigers, Jimmy Rowe, Paul Berry, Clinton Andrews and Greg Anderson 2 on target.
Church Inn stay third after a 2-1 win against Lion Inn, Gary Nugent and Alan Hough securing the points.
In Division Two biggest win of the day belonged to Butchers Arms, 7-1 winners against Ross's. Gary Renshaw rapped in four and there was one each for Dave Renshaw, Billy Killeen and Chris Bibby.
Also on seven were New Inn Rangers, 7-3 at Sir Charles Napier (Tony Battersby, Neil Rushworth 4 and John Bailey, two penalties).
