THE organisers of a top town criers' competition have plenty to shout about - they need money!
Clitheroe has been chosen as the venue for the 1998 National Town Criers' Guild Championship next May.
The competition is expected to attract up to 40 top-quality participants from throughout the country, including former world champions.
It will take place at Clitheroe Castle and will include a day of colourful pageantry and tradition.
And Clitheroe town crier and toastmaster Roland Hailwood is looking for local firms to help out.
"The event involves hospitality and travel expenses, which cannot be met from our funds, as we do not make a profit from our events. I am therefore appealing to civic authorities, trade, industry and tourism groups to grasp the nettle and join me in making this championship a resounding success," he said. Contact Mr Hailwood on 01200 422446 or 424240.
