WE are all aware of the adage that there is an unwritten law of honour among thieves - that they do not steal from their own kind.
The young couple who stole the collection box from our charity shop in Darwen Street, Blackburn, were not a modern day Robin Hood and Maid Marion taking from the rich to give to the poor.
They cannot even be described as low-life. It is fair to call them scum since they effectively took food out of our rescued animals' mouths at Christmas.
However, despite this sickening episode, our animals did have their treats during the festive season - the trustees and our faithful supporters making sure they did.
Let's hope these obscenities get their just deserts.
CAROL DUGGAN (Trustee), East Lancashire Animal Welfare, Cardigan Avenue, Oswaldtwistle.
