MORE than £14 billion was wiped off the value of share prices on the London Stock Exchange as City dealers returned from their Christmas break to find the world financial markets in chaos.
The losses came as the FTSE index which measures the top 100 shares plummeted 70.2 to 1.7209.
The falls followed widespread dollar selling worldwide, promoting fears of higher US interest rates leading to world recession.
