JUST one solitary block of flats remains as Burnley says farewell to an eyesore.
When Trafalgar Gardens was first built in the late 60s it was the 'in' place to live, boasting among its residents doctors and business people, but by the early 80s the medium-rise blocks became a haven for drugs and crime.
Burnley Council demolished the first seven blocks nearly three years ago and Manchester and District Housing Group developed that site, and an area of Whittlefield, for 140 houses for rent.
Now, thanks to £1.7m from English Partnerships, Wimpey Homes have been clearing the remaining 10 blocks to make way for 66 new two and three-bedroom houses and 24 two-bedroom flats with an area of public open space in the £5.1m scheme.
