A DELAY in delivery of two community minibuses in Pendle was because they had to be custom-built, the area's MP has been told.
Pendle Liberals blasted Labour-controlled Lancashire County Council earlier this month over an almost two-year wait for the buses to replace vehicles in Pendle Community Transport's ageing fleet. The area's Labour MP Gordon Prentice wrote to the county's chief executive Gordon Johnson asking for an explanation for the delay.
In reply, Mr Johnson said the buses were due to be delivered last May but there was an unavoidable delay.
"This was largely due to the manufacturers having to build new vehicles to a non-standard specification," said Mr Johnson.
The buses were eventually handed over to Pendle Community Transport on December 16.
They are specially converted to carry disabled and elderly passengers.
