Lancashire Hawks 3 Kingston Hawks 13

LANCASHIRE Hawks scored three cracking goals in the final 12 minutes of last night's Northern League clash at the Arena.

Trouble was, they hadn't found the net in the previous 48 minutes - during which time visiting Kingston had notched up a dozen.

The comeback thinly disguised a below-par performance, ironically played out before the Arena's best attendance of the season, just short of 1,400.

Hawks were pitiful in the first period when eight shots on target from the visitors yielded seven goals.

Things didn't get much better in the second before that rousing finale gave the long-suffering fans something to cheer.

It all added up to the heaviest defeat of the campaign - a dismal way to sign off 1997.

Hawks management say they are working tirelessly to bring in some new faces ahead of this weekend's deadline - for the sake of the season, and the fans, it is to be hoped they manage it.

Period scores: 0-7, 0-3, 3-3.

Scoresheet: Alan Hough 1+0, Bobby Haig 1+1, Simon Mills 1+0, Neil Abel 0+1, Mike Pynnonen 0+1, Jeff Daniels 0+1, Tim Dempsey 0+1.

To make matters worse Hawks lost top scorer Adrian Lomonaco through injury, the Canadian ace suffering a nasty eye gash from a flying stick which required seven stitches.
