I WAS pleased to see that a magistrate wanted to take tougher action against drink drivers (LET, December 20), but don't agree that sending them to jail is the solution.
A better option would be to confiscate their cars and ban them from driving for life.
This would certainly make them think twice about consuming alcohol before driving and risking the lives of others. Of course, such drastic action would probably offend the drinks industry and civil rights group, but the victims of drink driving 'accidents' would possibly feel better knowing that such drivers would never be in a position to cause such misery again.
