PARENTS and staff from a Nelson primary school have persuaded Pendle Council to improve a neighbouring back street.
The 120-name petition from the nursery unit at Walverden School called on the council to improve back Temple Street, tackle a dog fouling problem, introduce a one-way traffic system and remove a builder's skip and machinery.
Council highways boss Peter Atkinson said the skip had already been moved to a more suitable site.
He added that dog fouling stickers were to be put up to educate dog owners.
The council is also considering launching a dog fouling campaign involving the school and local people, similar to a successful scheme at Whitefield Nursery School, Nelson.
Mr Atkinson said a one-way scheme would not be feasible because it would be expensive and difficult to enforce and that back street maintenance was a low priority because of lack of cash.
He said temporary excavation work in the street would be permanently reinstated.
